Kimberley, Modern Apprentice – Customer Advisor

"It was the fun environment that attracted me to Sky in the first place. That and the fact that I’d be given the chance to undertake SVQs in Customer Service. Being quite bubbly and chatty, I’ve always enjoyed talking to people, so I thought why not get paid to do it?

As a Customer Advisor, I deal with a wide range of customers – some who just want to book a pay-per-view movie and others who are calling to discuss their billing this month. The job is fairly straight forward but, like most things, it did take time to get the hang of things. I am lucky as the team I am in are all Modern Apprentices, so we all understand what is involved.

I do have a lot of time away from the phone however, doing SVQ work for my qualification or attending weekly meetings with my Mentor. That’s the person assigned to you when you start at Sky to help with any worries or queries you have. Mine’s become more of a friend really.

The training is the most fun part. It’s where you get the chance to get to know all your fellow Modern Apprentices in the Customer Service department. You learn all about the history of Sky and who is responsible for what. And there are fun games and activities to make learning a little bit more interesting.

Being quite bubbly and chatty, I’ve always enjoyed talking to people, so I thought why not get paid to do it? Become more of a friend really. As for the benefits, well, where do I start? And if you’re willing to put in the work, and have the ability, then Sky will do everything to make sure you are pushed to your full potential.

At the end of your initial training, which lasts three weeks, you have to do a short film about Sky and then present it to the head of Customer Service. You even get a wee buffet too.kimberley_mop

As for the benefits, well, where do I start? The main one for me is the free Sky television package. You also get free broadband and Skytalk. Another bonus are our team nights out, which are always a good laugh. Especially the bowling.

If you enjoy working in a call centre environment and are target driven, then becoming a Modern Apprentice is definitely a good career path to take, especially with Sky. That’s because, as a company that’s all about entertainment, they try to make being here as interesting as possible. And if you’re willing to put in the work, and have the ability, then Sky will do everything to make sure you are pushed to your full potential.
