What attracted me to Sky? Well, along with the excitement associated with media, the level of exposure possible for graduates and the fantastically run programme, the atmosphere really blew me away. It’s very relaxed but remains entirely professional – I felt it hard to believe when other companies made this claim, but a tour of the campus proved this was a reality at Sky.
I work as an Assistant Financial Analyst in Business Development on the Finance Graduate Scheme. One of the exciting projects I’ve played a part in has been the joint venture between Sky and Sony PSP. Together we developed a subscription service to download and stream TV programmes, Movies and Sport onto the PSP called Go!View, which launched in July 2008.
The training is great. Soft-skills training is specifically chosen to meet our present and future needs. The fact that these courses run throughout the graduate scheme was a selling point for me, as I feel it’s important to gain new skills in order to be given more responsibility/autonomy with projects.
One of the exciting projects I’ve played a part in has been the joint venture between Sky and Sony PSP. I’ve been involved in charity work with the RNIB and helping disadvantaged school kids. A recent Softball tournament in heavy rain was a real laugh.
The CIMA qualification is fundamental to the finance scheme, and as such, is given a high priority. Full support is given, from flexible taught and revision session dates to exam technique and exclusive advice sessions from CIMA themselves.
Sky culture means I’m able to look for ways to improve things both within and outside my work. So I’ve been involved in charity work with the RNIB and helping disadvantaged school kids, as well as pre-empting development areas in my own role.
The benefits are amazing too. Free Sky TV, Talk and Broadband – if that didn’t sell it enough, there’s also private healthcare, private pension, generous study leave and holiday quotas, a competitive salary, a massive amount of staff discounts plus a very supportive, challenging and friendly work environment.
An often overlooked benefit is that there are a sizeable amount of similar graduates on the scheme, which provides a great support network to turn to and be a part of. And there are social events we all get involved in. A recent Softball tournament in heavy rain was a real laugh – the fact that I was on the winning team just proves how much fun I had.
I can’t imagine another finance scheme that offers such a diverse array of experiences. Setting aside the CIMA Quality Partner status that Sky holds, Sky has managed to develop a graduate scheme that offers work within a hugely influential function within a fast-moving, innovative, large company that is really good fun.
