Joining us on one of our placement schemes, on a shorter internship or for work experience is a fantastic way to get some understanding of what it's like to work at Sky. You can apply through our website but before you do here are some details about the different options that are available.

Work experience
Sky offers a range of different work experience opportunities and details are listed below.
It’s worth bearing in mind that work experience is highly competitive, so it’s really important you think carefully about why you’re applying and can demonstrate a keen interest in media and the area you’re applying to. As part of the application process on our website we’ll ask you to submit your CV and also complete 500 words on ‘why Sky should consider you for a work experience placement’.
It’s also a good idea to research all the different departments in Sky because there might be a new area that sparks your interest.
Broadcast Operations
This is where great sound, images and ideas come to life – our creative and technical production teams focus on ensuring we deliver seamless entertainment to our customers. Work experience in this area could help you decide on whether you want to be part of a team defining the future of broadcast entertainment. This is a popular area with many places booked up to 6-12 months in advance.
Corporate (Legal, HR, Finance etc.)
These teams make up a big part of our business and cover a breadth of diverse and challenging corporate areas with some limited opportunities available for work experience.
Marketing
Our Marketing (inc. research), Brand and PR teams have a busy time ensuring that Sky is the number one choice for our customers and is one of our most demanding areas of the business. Work experience placements are limited and highly competitive, but rewarding for those that are selected.
Sky Creative
Sky Creative is the hot house of creative talent, making all the amazing things you see on and off air. If you’re a budding artist, designer, film maker, digital guru, or just generally creative, then spending some time in this department on work experience could be rewarding. Ideally you will have some experience of using graphics software and be prepared to come with ideas and a pro-active attitude.
Sky Arts
Sky Arts focus on the very best in culture and the arts. If you have a passion for culture with a background in the arts especially dance, theatre and music you may be interested in spending some time in this area on work experience.
Sky Magazines
If you’re a sparky, keen journalist who has a passion for publishing this could be the area for you. Work experience placements are limited but for the right applicant this would be a great opportunity.
Sky News
For talented budding broadcast journalists, we offer a number of short editorial unpaid placements to help launch your career into broadcast journalism. This scheme is open to first degree students and post-graduates determined to work in the broadcast industry. This is a highly competitive area with places fully booked 3-6 months in advance.
Sky Sports News
Our 24 hour sports news channel provides you with an opportunity to combine together your passion for sports and journalism. However this is a very popular area with limited work experience places, and only the very best applicants will be considered.
Sky Sports News Radio (Leeds only)
If you have a passion for sports broadcasting and are interested in having an opportunity to play an active role in live radio output then this could be the area for you. We consider one placement per month so only the very best applications are considered. Please also include in your application an example of previous audio/voice in MP3 format.
Sky Showbiz Online
This is one the country’s largest websites, focusing on all things celebrity, fashion and beauty. Every day we write the latest news stories, find the freshest pictures and cover major events from the Oscars to film premieres and parties.
Having recently launched dedicated fashion and beauty sections, we now also offer advice on how to recreate key red-carpet looks, tips on treatments and A-list tricks as well as exclusive interviews with industry experts.
Technology
Sky Technology enables everything we do at Sky. If you’re interested in learning more about how we make it possible for our customers to view, listen, speak and interact in the most natural way, whether it's via our broadcast, internet or telecoms technology then this could be the area for you. Of course, we’ll also be interested in your ideas for innovation and technical development.

Fast Forward
This is an 11 month work placement within Entertainment, News and Sports for talented people aged between 16 and 18 starting in July, open to specific schools within the local West London borough.
Marketing Undergraduate Placement Scheme
As a second year marketing undergraduate you might be looking for a sandwich placement. This scheme is a great opportunity to experience the whole marketing mix and opens to undergraduates for applications each Spring.
Sky Magazines Summer Internships
We currently offer three month internships each summer for sparky, keen journalists who have a passion for publishing. Applications open each Spring.
Sky Sports News Summer Placement Scheme
This is a three month placement, commencing each summer, aimed at giving graduates the best introduction to Sports Journalism by a leading broadcaster. You’ll get the chance to work in planning, production and reporting. Applications open each Spring.
