Describe your role in one word: Challenging
Describe your time at Sky in one word: Fun
Where did you hear about the summer placement/what prompted you to apply? The Target Jobs website. I had been interested in working within Finance and working towards getting a CIMA qualification. The Finance Summer Placement at Sky was the most suited to me as I enjoy working within a fast-paced environment that promotes innovation.
What did you work on whilst on the Summer Placement at Sky? I worked on our group projects which involved working with four other finance interns. One of the projects was a trading review which really helped me gain knowledge of the main financials and KPIs we would need to focus on within this department. The other project challenged us on a creative level as it involved coming up with a new idea and analysing this. I also worked on completing a weekly financial report and an Internal Rate Analysis.
What did you do on a day-to-day basis? The individual tasks I was involved in were focused around the use of excel. Doing this has improved my excel skills greatly. I also attended meetings on a daily basis within both Sales and Service. These meetings were eye-opening in terms of the main focus of the finance department and how important team-work is within it.
What did you find most challenging? I found presenting our group projects particularly challenging as I hadn't presented a huge number of times before or within a working environment. Nevertheless, I was made to feel comfortable in doing so and felt confident when delivering the presentations.
What surprised you most about working at Sky? The working environment was even more exciting than I had imagined! It was great to be surrounded by the entire finance team throughout my time which made it much easier when it came to getting to know people and networking.
What would your 2 top tips be to future applicants? Make sure you familiarise yourself with Sky and the specific department you're applying for. To enable you to make the most of your time at Sky get involved and ask any questions you have.
