Current rotation:  TV Products Marketing Comms (joined Marketing Graduate Programme in 2015)

Describe a typical day in your current role  

I work on targeted marketing comms for Sky subscribers to try and get them to upgrade to (mainly) Sky Q, SGE and Multiscreen. A typical day will involve writing briefs for new campaigns, liaising with agencies, feeding back and supplying relevant insight to support their creative ideas. 

I might also be reviewing TV ads, Press and emails to ensure they land the correct message and align with wider campaigns and Sky “Look and Feel.”  Ensuring the right message is going to the right customer, working with insight teams to determine which segments should be targeted in order to optimise conversion. 

Describe your work/life balance at Sky

There’s a great social scene, collaborative working is encouraged as well, so there is always opportunity to network.  There’s lots of flexibility, including a gym and salon on site in Osterley, and 2 days off per rotation to study towards my marketing qualification. There are different events put on outside of work too and there’s always an opportunity to get involved in going back to my old university and talking to current students (I’m pictured here with fellow Marketing grad Fran at the Manchester careers fair we went to last year).

What’s the most enjoyable thing about your role and what surprised you most?

Seeing your campaigns in real life situations (on the tube, on the TV etc) and seeing the direct impact it has on the business, i.e. how many sales are attributed to it and how that supports overall marketing objectives/targets is really rewarding.

Your top application tip for people applying now – what did you do to stand out when you were applying.  

Be different in your reasons for choosing the area of business, and show your interest in the company.  It takes time to get settled in each rotation, so it can be overwhelming at first, but the people at Sky are always supportive and friendly and development is encouraged throughout the company, so very willing to help.
